Waterproof Performance of Bathroom Ceiling Panels

1. Panel Materials and Waterproofing Characteristics

Common bathroom ceiling panels are made of the following materials, each with different waterproofing properties:

• Aluminum Ceiling Panels: Made of aluminum alloy, with an oxidized, sprayed, or coated surface, they offer excellent waterproof and corrosion-resistant properties. Aluminum panels are the mainstream choice for bathroom ceilings because they are non-absorbent, do not deform, and are suitable for high-humidity environments.

• PVC Ceiling Panels: Made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), they have good waterproofing properties and are relatively inexpensive, making them suitable for families with limited budgets. However, PVC panels may age or deform if exposed to high temperatures or humidity for extended periods.

• Gypsum Board (Waterproof): Some bathrooms use waterproof gypsum board as the ceiling substrate, coated with a waterproof coating. Although waterproof gypsum board undergoes special treatment, its waterproofing performance is not as good as aluminum or PVC panels, and it may become damp with prolonged use.

• Other Materials: Such as wood panels or composite material panels, due to their poor waterproofing performance, are generally not recommended for bathrooms.
